The safety of our employees and subcontractors is our highest priority. We address our health and safety objectives with industry-leading standards and safety solutions, coupled with an inclusive culture and leadership focused on systematic performance monitoring and targeted actions. Accountability for Health, Safety and Environmental protection is central to our operations, and managing HSE process and performance is a top priority.
Our approach
We continuously aim to attain higher industry normal in all our markets by involving our partners. Our Group Health and Safety Standard is more stringent than local regulations in most markets. Our Group Health and Safety Standard is essential and include twenty principles. It covers aspects such as on-site risk assessment, training, incident management and personal protective equipment (PPE), as well as instructions for the most high-risk construction site work processes. All business units are certified by the ISO 45001 occupational health and safety management system.
Reducing risk through training and leadership awareness
Skills, training, leadership awareness and a proactive safety culture are key in ensuring greater engagement and safer worksites. The Hierarchy of controls illustrates the transition from a reactive to a proactive approach to safety risks. Our safety management systems include all stages of the hierarch of control. The greatest impact on safety is achieved in the early stages of design and planning, where risks can be effectively eliminated.
Community Development
Shelter Sphere invests in community development activities and local employment to falsify and foster good relations with host communities and to promote social and economic inclusivity. We support community-based initiatives, local business through services and supply contracts and the local workforce, to the extent possible, thereby ensuring that the immediate environment in which we operate is positively impacted and elevated by our business activities.
Research and Innovation
Shelter Sphere initiate research and development programs aimed at improving our ability to effectively and efficiently solve construction challenges that meet current and future needs. We engage in opportunities to share knowhow on technical innovations in the field of engineering and construction for implementation of advanced construction-related methodologies, procedures and solutions for the progress of best practice standards in the Nigerian building and construction sector as a whole.
